In a few words
Seymour, mistreated by the florist who employs him, secretly cultivates an exotic plant. Problem: the strange plant is carnivorous... A crazy family show, in the pure tradition of this successful musical, both funny and horrific.
Concept
“Our modern eye, used to screens and digital technology, makes the spectator more demanding. There is no need to compete with "cinema effects", we will once again use the art of manipulation to combine grandiose illusion with live performance. Surrounded by our faithful collaborators, we will take you on a psychedelic journey.”
Christian Hecq and Valérie Lesort, directors
“The project to reorchestrate Alan Menken's Little Shop of Horrors began with a great admiration and respect for the original score.”
Arthur Lavandier, orchestrator
Press review
“The Opéra Comique has a Broadway feel to it. […] This American satire about a carnivorous plant is reborn in a French version led by a pair of puppeteer directors and masters of horror that makes you laugh: Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq.”
Rfi, 19 December 2022, Carmen Lunsmann
“Illusion, burlesque, comedy and horror coexist in this funny nightmare that evokes the myth of Frankenstein and draws a very black satire of American society.”
franceinfo Culture, 12 December 2022, Sophie Jouve
“This mix of musical genres is very happily reflected in the composition of a cast of personalities from all walks of life, whom the directors combine in a staging choreographed with intense precision, in the course of stunning tableaux and in a set designed by Audrey Vuong of marshmallow-like gas stations. Directed without a moment's pause in the manner of cartoons in acidulous and pop colours, dressed to perfection by Vanessa Sannino, the performers are a hit.”
Artistik Rezo, 15 December 2022, Hélène Kuttner
