Claudia de Serpa Soares is a dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher born in Lisbon, Portugal.

She studied dance with Isabel Merlini and Luis Xarez , before joining the National Conservatory and the Superior Dance School in Lisbon and followed her studies in France at the Centre National de Dance Contemporaine d’Angers.

Claudia danced with Iztok Kovac (Slovenia) and Paulo Ribeiro (Lisbon) and becomes a member of the dance ensemble of the Schaubühne Theatre in Berlin under the artistic direction of Sasha Waltz. Since 1999 she has performed many works by Sasha Waltz , and has also served as rehearsal master and assistant for Sasha Waltz & Guests creations.

Meanwhile, Claudia has collaborated with a wide range of visual, theatrical, music, and opera artists including Junko Wada, Ronald Kukulies, Jonathan Bepler, Grayson Millwood, Lilo Baur, Daniel Pennac, Julian Rosefeldt, Nuno Cera, Eve Sussman and The Rufus Corporation, Jochen Sandig and the Rundfunkchor Berlin, Companhia Utero, Knowbotiq and Nicola Raab, among others.

She assisted and choreographed at the Opera de Dijon for Lilo Baur in “Dido and Aeneas” and for Nicola Raab in “Macbeth”. She also assisted in the movement for “La Maison de Bernarda d’Alba “ for Lilo Baur at La Comedie Française and for “L’Amour des Trois Oranges” for Anna Bernreitner at Opera National de Lorraine.

Claudia’s performance installation More Up A Tree, a collaboration with artist Eve Sussman (USA) and drummer Jim White (AUS), premiered at the Grand Theatre Luxembourg and was presented at BAM/Performa NYC and at the Melbourne Festival.

Claudia received a Dis-Tanz-Solo grant to work on “I am not here to Entertain “, an on going Performative and No Performative project, based on a personal photographic archive.
