The Opéra Comique’s Maîtrise Populaire is an artistic, educational and social scheme which aims at making learning music and singing accessible to the greatest number. Relying on active learning pedagogy, the Maîtrise’s director, Sarah Koné, instils the joy of learning in 124 initially non-musician pupils, aged 8 to 25. The majority of these pupils comes from REP and REP+2 schools.
The Maîtrise Populaire’s curriculum is composed of 4 Cycles (Pre-Maîtrise, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycle). Pupils enrol on adjusted joint courses (CHAM classes) alternating between school and stage performances in the Salle Favart’s operas or taking part in concerts to gain experience.
