The opera Les Sentinelles arrives on 10 April

The second collaboration between librettist Chloé Lechat and composer Clara Olivares, Les Sentinelles explores the nuances of love with five ambiguous and colourful characters, lost in the impossibility of reconciling desire with duty.

A contemporary creation co-produced with the Opéra-Comique, Opéra National de Bordeaux and Opéra de Limoges, to be seen from 10 to 13 April at the Salle Favart.

Les Sentinelles tells the story of how the relationship between a mother and her gifted daughter deteriorates when they come into contact with two other women who form a lovesick duo. In the course of the opera, the love game between the characters becomes more complex, and the gifted daughter leaves behind the image of the smiling child she once was... Lovers' relationships, fearsome things left unsaid, destructive strategies and eternal jealousy: the closed-door world builds up before the eyes of the child, who remains enigmatic. Like ‘sentinels’, the three women try, each in their own way, to accompany and protect the child. All four find a form of hope and a fleeting equilibrium.

« ‘With the opera Les sentinelles, I wanted to deal with the complexities of the human race from a non-judgemental point of view, seeking simply to capture the sensitivities present even in violence, frustration or the purest of feelings: opera, a complete art form, offers the opportunity to express the infinite nuances. »
