The nymph Coronis flees the monster and brutal lover Triton while a war breaks out between Apollo and Neptuno: one sets the Thrace country they both want to rule over on fire while the other is flooding it. Ending love entanglements and warlike adventures, Apollo kills Triton and saves Coronis. They are appointed King and Queen by Jupiter.

Coronis, les extraits du spectacle au Théâtre de Caen (2019)

Played before the Spanish king Philipp V, this mythological pastorale constitutes an eminently baroque opera. The cast of characters mirrors Spain’s theatre companies, when only women were trained in chant. The spectacular nature of this work of art, in which tragedy and the burlesque go hand in hand, as well as its real musical depth, which combines sumptuous choirs and Italian-style tunes with popular Spanish songs, bear witness to the opera pioneer and genius, Durón,

Created in Caen in 2019, Omar Porras’ show gives free rein to poetry and elements. Passionate activist, Vincent Dumestre rallies the Poème Harmonique and a cast of artists well versed in baroque eloquence in order to revive the colours of this little-known art form.
