Winner of the Talent ADAMI 2023 and Fonds Tutti 2024 programmes, French tenor Abel Zamora trained at the Département Supérieur pour Jeunes Chanteurs in Paris and then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse in Lyon. He won 2nd Prize in the Concours National Thomas Kuti 2022 and the Grand Prix de la Mélodie Française at the Concours International OPUS ARTIS PARIS 2023, and took part in the Jeunes Talents season as part of the Autékia duo he formed with pianist Félix Moussiegt, performing in recital at the Musée des Archives Nationales in Paris in spring 2024.
Praised for his "brilliant voice" (Olyrix), "fine presence" (Res Musica), "seductive timbre" (Classique c'est cool) and "excellent diction" (Prémière Loge), Abel made his debut in 2022 at the Opéra de Toulon in the role of the Second Notary in La Périchole (J. Offenbach).
He's a member of the Opéra-Comique's Académie Favart for the 2023-2024 season. He will make his debut at the Opéra-Comique as Amant Fortuné in Armide (J. B. Lully) conducted by Christophe Rousset, and as tenor soloist in Pulcinella (I. Stravinsky) under the baton of Louis Langrée. He will return to the Edinburgh International Festival in the summer of 2024 to sing Rémendado in Carmen (G. Bizet).
He is highly regarded in the Mozart repertoire, taking on the roles of Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Ottavio (Don Giovanni, Labopéra Seine-et-Marne production).
His repertoire combines both early music (Ercole in Sartorio's Orfeo, an ARCAL - Fondation Royaumont co-production conducted by Philippe Jarrousky) and contemporary music: we have heard him in the characteristic roles of Petit Vieillard, Théière and Rainette in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (M. Ravél), but also in Pierre Rigal's creation MERVEILLE (Opéra de Paris production) and in Frank Krawzcyk's L'Affaire Clemenza, a free adaptation of La Clemenza di Tito (M. Ravel), but also in Pierre Rigal's creation MERVEILLE (Opéra de Paris production) and in Frank Krawzcyk's L'Affaire Clemenza, a free adaptation of La Clemenza di Tito (W. A. Mozart), at La Seine Musicale.
He will be back in July 2024 in the role of Parpignol in La Bohème (Puccini) conducted by Alexandre Bloch at the Orchestre National de Lille, and at the Opéra de Saint-Etienne where he will play Beppe in Pagliacci (R. Leoncavallo) in March 2025.
Abel Zamora is a member of the Académie de l'Opéra-Comique for the 2023-2024 season.
