In the 2024/25 Season, John will make his debuts at the Opéra Comique, the Opéra national du Rhin, Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg and at the Tiroler Festspieler Erl reprising his acclaimed performance in the dual roles of The Artisan and The Collector in Sir George Benjamin's Picture a Day Like This; he will also return to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Weinberg's Lady Magnesia and will make his role debut as Marcello La boheme at Opéra Montreal. On the concert platform, John will make his debut at the Austin Symphony with Carmina Burana.
Last season, John returned to the Festival d'Aix en Provence singing the title role of Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria in a new production directed by Pierre Audi and conducted by Leonardo Alarcon; he also made his debuts at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as The Artisan and The Collector in Sir George Benjamin's Picture a Day Like This and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in a staging of Weinberg's little known opera Lady Magnesia.
John made his debut at the Festival d'Aix en Provence in the World Premiere of Sir George Benjamin's Picture a Day Like This creating the dual roles of The Artisan and The Collector; he also recently made his debuts with Opéra de Montreal as Franz Wolff-Metternich in the World Premiere of Julien Bilodeau’s La Beauté du monde; with The Cleveland Orchestra as Jack Wallace La Fanciulla del West conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and he performed orchestral arrangement of Schubert’s Winterreise at Theater Erfurt.
In 2019, John’s portrayal of title role in Tobias Pickers’ Fantastic Mr. Fox with Boston Modern Orchestra Project, which Opera News called “vigorous .. perfect for Mr. Fox ... full of the joys of spring” went on to win a 2020 GRAMMY Award for Best Opera Recording. Other recent highlights include: Guglielmo Così fan tutte and Donald Billy Budd for San Francisco Opera; Albert Werther for the Stadttheater Klagenfurt; Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos for the Opéra national de Lorraine; The Steward Flight and Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Pacific Opera Victoria; Pete in Olga Neuwirth’s Lost Highway at Oper Frankfurt; Magnussen in Merdith Monk’s Atlas with the LA Philharmonic and Mercutio Roméo et Juliette with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon. John has also appeared at the Semperoper Dresden, Oper Frankfurt, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Florida Grand Opera, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Opera Omaha and Glyndebourne.
