John Graham-Hall studied at King’s College, Cambridge and the Royal College of Music. He sings regularly with all the major British opera companies and his repertoire includes Tanzmeister (Ariadne auf Naxos), Monostatos (The Magic Flute)‚ Kudrjas (Katya Kabanova), Bob Boles (Peter Grimes), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Vitek (The Makropulos Case), Shuisky (Boris Godunov), Triquet (Eugene Onegin)‚ Shabby Peasant (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Alwa (Lulu), Schoolmaster (The Cunning Little Vixen), Mayor (Albert Herring), Elcius (Croesus) and Dr. Caius (Falstaff). Recent and upcoming engagements include Witch of Endor (Saul) at Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Théâtre du Châtelet‚ Aron (Moses und Aron) at Paris Opera and Teatro Real‚ Madrid‚ Aschenbach (Death in Venice) and Grimes (Peter Grimes) at La Scala‚ Milan‚ Valzacchi (Der Rosenkavalier) and Triquet (Eugene Onegin) at Metropolitan Opera‚ Peter Grimes (title role) for Opéra de Nice and Säo Carlos, Lisbon, Ashenbach at ENO, Shuisky (Boris Godunov) at Royal Opera House, in Paris‚ Toulouse‚ Oviedo and Pamplona‚ Mayor (Albert Herring) in Toulouse‚ Zivny (Osud) in Stuttgart and Opera North‚ Captain James Nolan (Dr Atomic) in Strasbourg‚ Schoolmaster (The Cunning Little Vixen) at La Monnaie and Netherlands Opera‚ Beadle (Sweeney Todd) at Châtelet‚ Monostatos (The Magic Flute) at ENO and Northern Ireland Opera‚ Tree Frog/Tea Pot/Arithmetic (L’enfant et les Sortilèges) at Opera North. John Graham-Hall has worked with conductors such as Haitink, Harnoncourt, Boulez, Andrew Davis, Tate, Rattle, Gardiner and Abbado. Recent concert performances include Messiah, Henze’s Kammermusik 1958, Winterreise and War Requiem by Britten, Honegger’s Joan of Arc at the Stake. His recordings include Carmina Burana, Lloyd Webber songs, Tanzmeister, Bob Boles, Isacco (Thieving Magpie) and Idiot (Wozzeck).
