The place of women in culture: a look back at the Women's Forum

As part of a partnership with the Women's Forum for the Economy & Society, on 5 February the Opéra-Comique co-organised an evening dedicated to the place of women in culture, in the presence of Leïla Grison, Director of the Women's Forum, and Louis Langrée, Director of the Opéra-Comique.

The evening opened with a round table discussion entitled ‘Representations of women: from muses to protagonists’, moderated by Laure Modesti and featuring Helena Skarstedt, Chair of the American Friends Board of Directors of Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Joséphine Barbereau, President of éditions Diane de Selliers and art historian, and Prune Nourry, artist and pioneer of socially committed contemporary art. These renowned guests discussed the changing place of women in artistic creation and their role as agents of change in the cultural world.

Guests then attended the pre-general rehearsal of Luigi Cherubini's Médée, directed by Marie-Ève Signeyrole and conducted by Laurence Equilbey. It was an intense immersion in this powerful work, which questions female representations and echoes the themes discussed at the round table.

The evening marked a key stage in the Women's Forum's commitment to culture as a lever for gender equality. The Opéra-Comique is proud to have hosted this event and to have contributed to these vital discussions.
