The young Franco-British conductor Sammy El Ghadab has always been fascinated by collective musical work and reflection on orchestral and vocal sound masses.
He has conducted the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Les Frivolités Parisiennes, and is the founder and choral conductor of the vocal ensemble EOS XXI. Winner of two prizes in conducting and orchestration under Olivier Kaspar, Sammy furthered his knowledge of the French conducting repertoire with Dominique Rouits and Julien Masmondet at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Music and Musicology from the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) in 2014.
In 2019, he began a postgraduate course in choral conducting at the CNSMD in Lyon in Lionel Sow's class, obtaining his DNSPM in 2023. From September 2023, Sammy will make his debut at the Opéra-Comique as assistant conductor for the 23-24 season at the Académie Favart. There he assisted Hervé Niquet in La Fille de Madame Angot, directed by Richard Brunel, and Louis Langrée in the production of L'Heure espagnole and Pulcinella, directed by Guillaume Gallienne.
In 2024, Sammy was entrusted with the musical direction of Au Loin, ma Ville, an adaptation of Gustave Charpentier's opera Louise. Sammy re-orchestrated the work for a small ensemble of 11 musicians, performed by Les Frivolités Parisiennes, with Héloïse Sérazin directing and Lauranne Oliva and Léo Vermot-Desroches in the roles of Louise and Julien. He is also behind a project to create a Fabrique Opéra in Val-de-Marne, in collaboration with Barthélémy Fortier. Together, they plan to produce a staging of Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges in 2026, accompanied by an adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's famous novel Le Petit Prince, created by composer Olivier Kaspar.
Particularly interested in promoting music to all audiences, especially in rural areas, Sammy regularly takes part in festivals in the Tarn (Festival de Puycelsi) and the Dordogne (Franco-American Vocal Academy). He conducts both amateurs and professionals, with the aim of democratising and spreading the artistic message he champions. For him, music knows no sectarianism, only sectarians who make it their own.
His enthusiasm and exacting standards enable him to pass on his passion and musicality to the musicians and audiences he meets.
Sammy El Ghadab is a member of the Académie de l'Opéra-Comique in the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 classes.
