Donnerstag aus Licht

The double of the composer and of the archangel Michael, Michael – interpreted by a singer, a dancer and a trumpeter – is at first a child with his parents, then a man in love, an artist and a traveler, and finally an archangel facing evil, a messenger of peace and an intercessor between men and God.

Exploring time, surrounding space, mobilizing the performers and the audience. With Donnerstag, the first of seven operas of the Licht cycle, Stockhausen achieved a great adventure for the ear, the eye and the mind, with a keen sense of detail and of organic unity.

Maxime Pascal enthusiastically defends this total and totalizing work. Benjamin Lazar joins him to make this great ritual accessible to everyone. On this occasion, the Opéra Comique will open its doors earlier than usual to better unfold the utopias and the generous proportions of this exceptional score.
