Crimp and Benjamin have created a delicate, poignant and radiant masterpiece capturing scenes. Performed without intermission by outstanding artists under the composer’s baton, the creation proves that the contemporary opera scene can be innovative, poetic and accessible.

Picture a day like this : la bande-annonce

An ordinary day. A horrific event: the death of a child makes a woman beg for a miracle. «All you need to do is find a genuinely happy person before nightfall
and take a button from their sleeve». Promising and disappointing encounters follow one another to the threshold of a wondrous garden.

Created in 2023 at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence on a text by Martin Crimp, this lyric fable is George Benjamin’s fourth opera. As in 2012 with the historic success of Written on Skin, the Opéra-Comique co-produced this creation, directed by Daniel Jeanneteau and Marie- Christine Soma, to host the premiere in Paris.
